Technical Standards And Specifications For Automotive Rear-View Mirrors

Rear-view mirror testing is based on various national standards and international specifications. Domestically, the primary reference is GB 15084, "Performance and installation requirements for devices for indirect vision of motor vehicles," which details key parameters such as field of view, reflectance, and radius of curvature. International standards include UN Regulation No. 46 (UN R46), EU Directive 2007/38/EC, and US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 (FMVSS 111). For electronic rear-view mirrors, reference is also made to ISO 16505, "Road vehicles - Ergonomic and performance aspects of Camera Monitor Systems," and amendments to ECE R46. The industry standard QC/T 531, "Automotive Rear-View Mirrors," specifies product classifications, technical requirements, and test methods. Collectively, these standards form the technical basis for testing, ensuring the authority and comparability of the results.

Evaluation of test results relies on rigorous technical criteria. The field of view must cover the blind zones defined by the standards; the horizontal field of view for interior mirrors must be at least 20°, while the primary field of view for exterior mirrors must be at least 15°. Reflectance requirements stipulate a minimum of 40% for interior mirrors in day mode, with a range of 4%–40% for anti-glare modes. Image quality assessments require astigmatism values to remain below 0.25 m⁻¹ and distortion to be controlled within 7%. Regarding mounting strength, mirror brackets must withstand a static load of 400 N without permanent deformation. Environmental adaptability tests require that mirror surfaces show no signs of blurring, detachment, or cracking. For electronic rear-view mirrors, image latency must not exceed 60 ms, and resolution must be at least 1 megapixel. All test items must meet the specified limits; failure to comply with any critical item results in the product being deemed non-compliant.
