Shanghai Xinmao Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. has recently completed the trial installation of its newly developed folding exterior rearview mirror for buses and tour coaches. The trial was conducted on a bus at a bus depot, where the company's technical team carried out on-site installation and adjustment of the mirror assembly.
During the trial, the team completed the positioning, installation, and functional checks of the exterior rearview mirror according to the installation requirements. The assembly process proceeded smoothly, and the product met the requirements of the trial in terms of vehicle fitment, structural fastening, and folding mechanism operation.

Developed for Complex Bus Operating Environments
Buses operate in a wide range of road and parking environments. Narrow roads in older urban areas, bus depots, and tunnels can leave limited space around the vehicle, increasing the possibility of exterior rearview mirrors being scraped or damaged. Such incidents can add to maintenance requirements and may also affect vehicle safety.
To address these operating conditions, Shanghai Xinmao Automotive Technology developed the folding exterior rearview mirror based on its experience in exterior rearview mirror development and manufacturing.
The mirror uses a folding structure that allows the exterior rearview mirror to be folded when the vehicle is passing through narrow spaces or maneuvering in areas with limited clearance. By reducing the space occupied by the mirror outside the vehicle body, the design helps reduce the risk of contact and collision.
The structure also takes the driver's field of view into consideration. While providing a folding function, the product is developed to meet the requirements for visibility and protection of the exterior mirror during normal vehicle operation.
Structural Design Also Considers Transportation Efficiency

In addition to vehicle application, the product structure was developed with production costs and overseas transportation requirements in mind.
The folding design allows the mirror to occupy less space when folded during transportation. This can make more efficient use of available container space and increase the number of products loaded within the same container capacity, helping reduce the ocean freight cost allocated to each unit.
The structure also considers production and assembly requirements, supporting manufacturing cost control while maintaining the required product quality and providing customers with a more economical product solution.
Vehicle Trial Installation Provides a Basis for Further Development
During the on-site trial installation, the technical team checked the product's vehicle fitment, structural fastening, and folding mechanism operation one by one. The complete process, from component positioning and installation to fastening and adjustment, was completed smoothly.
The folding exterior rearview mirror showed good compatibility with the bus used in the trial. The installation also provided practical verification of the product's installation process and basic folding mechanism operation.
The data and observations collected during the trial will provide a basis for subsequent product optimization and reliability testing.
Continued Development of Bus Exterior Rearview Mirrors
Shanghai Xinmao Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. integrates the design, development, and manufacturing of exterior rearview mirrors for medium and large buses and coaches. The company has continued to focus on exterior rearview mirrors as vehicle visibility and safety components, developing products according to practical vehicle application requirements.
The successful trial installation of the folding exterior rearview mirror represents a further step in the company's product development process. Based on the results of the vehicle trial, the project team will continue to optimize product details, improve reliability testing, and advance the product toward finalization and production.
The company will continue to develop folding exterior rearview mirror products for bus and coach applications in domestic and overseas markets, with a focus on practical operating conditions, installation compatibility, and transportation efficiency.
