Proper adjustment of car rearview mirrors

1. Adjusting the Center Rearview Mirror

To adjust the center rearview mirror, first ensure you are in a proper driving position. Then, look up at the mirror and adjust it so that the horizon is positioned in the center of the glass.

2. Adjusting the Left Side Mirror

Since the left side mirror is close to the driver, the blind spot along the left side of the vehicle is relatively small, and visibility is generally good. Adjust the mirror so that the horizon appears in the center, while ensuring the image of the vehicle's left side occupies the rightmost quarter of the mirror-meaning the sky and ground each take up half the vertical space, and the vehicle body takes up one-quarter of the horizontal space.

3. Adjusting the Right-Side Rearview Mirror

Since the right-side exterior mirror is farther away from the driver, adjust it so that the horizon appears at the two-thirds mark of the mirror's height and the image of the right side of the vehicle occupies the leftmost quarter of the mirror. Allowing the ground to take up a larger portion of the mirror's surface makes it easier to monitor road conditions on the right side of the vehicle and helps gauge the distance between the vehicle body and the curb when parking.

4. Minimize Blind Spots

When driving, it is essential to remain observant and make effective use of your rearview mirrors to minimize blind spots; therefore, properly adjusting these mirrors is a prerequisite for safe driving. Furthermore, avoid common mistakes when making adjustments-such as angling the mirrors too far outward or downward, or-in the case of some vanity-conscious drivers-tilting them to face themselves. Such practices only serve to increase the size of your blind spots.

It is important to note that before adjusting the mirrors, you must first set the vehicle's seat and steering wheel to ensure a correct and comfortable driving posture. Maintaining the proper seating position is a prerequisite for mirror adjustment; if the mirrors are set while your posture is incorrect, they will not function as intended.
