Cleaning the Mirror Surface
Keeping the rearview mirror surface clean is essential for ensuring it functions properly. During daily driving, the mirror surface accumulates dust, grease, water spots, and insect residue. These contaminants impair visibility-particularly at night or in adverse weather-potentially preventing the driver from accurately assessing traffic conditions behind the vehicle.
When cleaning, use a soft, clean, damp cloth to wipe the surface gently. For stubborn stains, apply a small amount of mild cleaner-such as soapy water or a dedicated automotive glass cleaner-to the cloth. Avoid cleaners containing highly corrosive ingredients like alcohol or acetone, as these can damage the mirror's coating. Wipe in a single direction rather than back and forth to prevent scratching the surface. After cleaning, dry the mirror with a clean, dry cloth to prevent residual water spots from obscuring visibility.
Additionally, since water droplets tend to linger on rearview mirrors during rain or after a car wash, applying a rain-repellent treatment is recommended. Spray the repellent evenly onto the mirror surface and buff it with a clean, soft cloth to create a hydrophobic coating. This allows water droplets to slide off quickly during rainy weather, keeping the mirror relatively clear and enhancing driving safety.
Adjusting the Angles
Properly adjusting the rearview mirrors is crucial for achieving the best field of vision. The interior rearview mirror should provide a clear view of the area directly behind the vehicle. To adjust it, the driver should sit in the driver's seat in a normal driving posture and use the adjustment controls to position the mirror so that it fully captures the view through the rear window, with the left and right edges of the mirror's view roughly aligned with the sides of the vehicle body.
Adjusting the exterior side mirrors requires balancing the view of the areas to the side and rear. Generally, the horizon should be positioned in the center of the mirror, and the vehicle body should occupy only a small portion of the mirror-ideally, just enough to see the door handle. This configuration minimizes blind spots, allowing the driver to promptly spot vehicles or other objects approaching from the side or rear.
It is worth noting that different driving situations may require minor adjustments to the mirror angles. For instance, when changing lanes, turning, or reversing, you might slightly adjust the mirrors to better monitor traffic in a specific direction. However, during routine driving, the mirror angles should remain relatively stable; frequent, drastic adjustments should be avoided to prevent distracting the driver.
Checking the Field of View
Periodically checking the field of view provided by your rearview mirrors is crucial for driving safety. Over time, mirror positioning can shift slightly due to impacts, vibrations, or other factors, altering the visible area.
During routine vehicle checks, drivers should step outside and observe the mirrors from various angles to ensure they provide a clear and comprehensive view. Pay special attention to blind spots; you can assess the extent of these blind spots by placing markers at various locations around the vehicle and then checking the mirrors from the driver's seat to see if the markers are visible.
If you notice a reduced field of view or significant blind spots, adjust the mirrors promptly. For inherent blind spots resulting from the vehicle's design, consider installing equipment such as blind-spot monitoring systems or auxiliary mirrors to improve awareness of these areas and reduce the risk of accidents.
Protective mirror case
The rearview mirror housing not only protects the mirror surface, but also affects the appearance and stability of the entire rearview mirror. In daily use, be careful to avoid damage to the lens case such as collisions, scratches, and extrusions.
When parking, try to choose a spacious and open parking space, avoid getting too close to other vehicles or objects, and prevent collision with the rearview mirror housing when opening and closing the door or when other vehicles move. When passing through narrow passages or crowded road sections, be extra careful and estimate the distance between the rearview mirror and surrounding objects in advance. If necessary, fold the rearview mirror and restore it to its original position after passing.
In addition, the mirror housing also requires regular cleaning and maintenance. The mirror casing can be cleaned and cared for using the same detergents and maintenance agents used on the car body to remove dust, dirt and UV oxidation on the surface, maintaining the gloss and flexibility of the mirror casing and extending its service life.

For rearview mirrors equipped with electric adjustment, it is important to periodically verify that the system is functioning correctly. While this feature allows drivers to conveniently adjust mirror angles from inside the vehicle, a malfunction could compromise the driving experience and safety.
To check the system, sit in the driver's seat and operate the adjustment controls; observe whether the mirror moves smoothly in response to your inputs and listen for any abnormal motor noise or signs of sticking. If a malfunction is detected, first check if the fuse has blown. If the fuse is intact, the issue may stem from a faulty motor, wiring problems, or a damaged control switch.
